Unfold, Unfold, Unfolding

Through installation and sculpture, Lisa Stonham looks to challenge the parameters of photography by extending it into physical space. Each of the works installed across the MAMA mezzanine depict fragments or details of interiors. The imagery across the folded acrylic sheets and in-situ on the building’s architecture, are 1:1 scale representations of other sites and foreground the play of light in architectural space.

The works require careful inspection and need to be physically navigated, asking audiences to become active in their experience of the installation as a whole and the subtleties of light and environment depicted. This is intended to bring a further temporal aspect to the experience of the work and encourage the idea that photographs are not fixed records, but sites to be negotiated.
